چکیده

Background: Severe degloving injury of the lower extremities is uncommon but challenging. The study aimed to present our experience of skin grafts for the salvage of severe degloved above-knee amputation stump. Methods: From September 2007 to January 2014, five patients with severe degloving injury of lower extremities were treated with immediate full-thickness skin graft following a protocol of above-knee amputation. The full thickness skin grafts were harvested from the amputated limbs. Results: The patients ranged in age from 20 years to 52 years. Three of five patients recovered without any secondary intervention. Partial losses were found in two cases and one was treated with daily dressing, and another with secondary partial split-thickness skin grafts. Conclusions: Full-thickness degloved skin grafts represent a reliable and durable option to preserve sufficient limb length in above-knee amputations with degloving injury of lower extremities.

Isolated Penile Degloving from Milling Machine Injury in a Child

Degloving injuries of the male perineum are an uncommon urological emergency often requiring reconstruction. They are usually related to industrial and/or agricultural machinery and tend to involve both the penile shaft and the scrotal skin. Adolescents and young adults are the usual victims. The treatment options commonly employed include the use of the degloved skin either as a flap or more o...

Skin grafts provide durable end-bearing coverage for lower-extremity amputations with critical soft tissue loss.

Lower-extremity amputations in the presence of soft tissue loss represent an unresolved conundrum because surgeons must consider sacrificing bone length to obtain adequate soft tissue coverage. Local flaps and microvascular soft tissue transfers are established strategies for maintaining residual limb length. However, the use of skin grafts remains controversial due to the presumed inferiority ...

Combining tangential hydrodissection, panniculectomy, and negative pressure wound therapy in treating extensive degloving injury of the leg

Major degloving injuries of the lower limb are daunting lesions because they are relatively rare and always produce larger soft tissue defects than direct visual inspection that could be predicted in the emergency room. Enough body of the medical literature supports the excision of the avulsed tissue and replaces it as a full-thickness skin graft. However, almost paradoxically, there is little ...

A simple turnover technique to harvest skin graft from the avulsed skin.

A 12-year-old child presented to us with an avulsion injury left lower limb 6 hours following road traffic accident. On examination, the patient had avulsion of skin from the anterolateral surface of the thigh and circumferential skin avulsion extending from knee joint to the foot (figure 1). The non-viable avulsed skin was debrided till the fresh bleeding edges were obtained. The avulsed skin ...

A Simple Strategy in Avulsion Flap Injury: Prediction of Flap Viability Using Wood's Lamp Illumination and Resurfacing with a Full-thickness Skin Graft

BACKGROUND Extensive degloving injuries of the extremities usually result in necrosis of the flap, necessitating comprehensive skin grafting. Provided there is a sufficient tool to evaluate flap viability, full-thickness skin can be used from a nonviable avulsed flap. We used a Wood's lamp to determine the viability of avulsed flaps in the operation field after intravenous injection of fluoresc...
